CHAP. 591.—An ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of
Elizabeth City county to expend the surplus fund in the bands
of the county treasurer due the county, and not otherwise a
propriated, in the improvement of the public highways of said
county.
Approved March 2, 1892.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That it shall be lawful for the board of supervisors of
Elizabeth City county to expend any surplus fund now
in the hands of the treasurer of the said county due the
said county, and not needed to defray legitimate county
charges, in the alteration, construction, and repairs of the
public highways and bridges in the said county in such
manner and at such times as the said board shal! determine:
provided that of any sum appropriated under this act the
said board shall direct the said treasurer to place to the
credit of the town of Hampton such a part thereof as shall
bear the same proportion to the sum so appropriated as
the property assessed with county tax of the said town
bears to the values of the whole county, and the said town
council shall expend the said sum upon the improvement
and betterment of the streets of the said town.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
