Chap. 586.—An ACT to authorize E. W. Milligan, F. Stratner,
J. E N. Sterling, W. H. Sterling and W. C. Truitt, partners
trading under the firm name and style of Milligan, Stratner,
Sterling and company, to erect a wharf upon the land leased by
them of J.8 Darling in Elizabeth City county.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That E. W. Milligan, F. Stratner, J. E. N. Sterling, W. H.
Sterling and W. C. Truitt, partners trading under the firm
name and style of Milligan, Stratner, Sterling and com-
pany, of the county of Elizabeth City, be, and are hereby,
authorized and permitted to erect a wharf upon the land
leased by them of J. 8. Darling on the south side and at
the mouth of Back river, with a water front of fifty feet,
or less, and extending one hundred and fifty feet, or less,
from low-water mark into the said Back river; and that
they, the said Milligan, Stratner, Sterling and company,
their heirs, assigns or successors, shall have the right to
charge and receive such fees as a compensation for the use
thereof as may have been agreed upon by them, or as are
usual: provided that such wharf shall] not obstruct or im-
pair free navigation in the said Back river: and provided
also, that this act shall be subject to amendment, modifica-
tion or repeal at the pleasure of the general] assembly.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
