1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That sections one and eight of an act entitled “an act to
incorporate the Lynchburg belt railroad company,” ap-
proved May twenty-first, eighteen hundred and eighty-
seven, the said company having been organized under and
in pursuance of said act, be amended and re-enacted so
as to read as follows:
8 1. The said Lynchburg belt railroad company shall
have, and are hereby given, all the powers, rights and
franchises granted, and shall be subject to all the liabili-
ties imposed by chapters forty-six, forty-seven and fifty-
one of the code of eighteen hundred and eighty-seven,
and the acts of assembly amendatory thereof, so far as
the same may be applicable and are not modified by or
inconsistent with this act, or the act to which this is an
amendment, necessary and proper to construct, equip,
maintain and operate a line or lines of railroad, standard
or narrow gauge, as said company may deem best, con-
necting at or near the city of Lynchbfrg, any two or more
of the railroads now constructed or which may hereafter
be constructed, running into or near the corporate limits
of the city of Lynchburg; and said line or lines of rail-
road may be run into said corporate limits, subject, how-
ever, to the provisions contained in section ten hundred
and ninety-three of the code, requiring, among other
things, the assent of the corporate authorities.
§ 8. The said company shall commence one of said
lines of railroad within two years, and complete the same
within five years from the passage of this act, and work
may be begun on any portion of the line; and said company
agrees, by the acceptance of this act, to pay all its taxes
in legal tender currency of the United States.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
