CHAP. 503.—An ACT to authorize and empower the East Hamp-
ton development company to construct a bridge across Hamp-
ton river, in the county of Elizabeth City, and to construct,
equip, and operate a railroad from its lands in said county
across said bridge into the town of Hampton.
Approved February 29, 1892.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That the East Hampton development company, a corpora-
tion duly chartered by order of the judge of the circuit
court of Elizabeth City county, entered in vacation, on the
fifth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and
ninety, with its principal office in the town of Hampton,
in said county, shall have power and authority to construct
and maintain a bridge not exceeding thirty feet in width
across Hampton river, in the county of Elizabeth City,
state of Virginia, at a point above or north of the Chesa-
peake and Ohio railway company’s bridge, from the lands
of the said East Hampton development company on the
eastern side of said river, to the lands of the said East
Hampton development company on the western side of
said river.
2. That the said East Hampton development company
shall have power and authority to construct, equip, ope-
rate and maintain a railroad, to be propelled by steam,
electricity, or horse or mule power, from its lands in the
said county across said bridge into the town of Hampton,
in the said county: provided, however, that such railroad
shall not cross the tracks of the Chesapeake and Ohio rail-
way company without the consent of the said company, or
the tracks of the Hampton and Old Point railway com-
pany without the consent of said company.
3. That the said East Hampton development company
may construct, maintain and operate its said railroad line
along and on the public roads of the said county of Eliza-
beth City, with the consent of the board of supervisors of the
said county, and along and on the public streets and alleys
of the said town of Hampton, with the consent of the
council thereof.
4. That this act shall be in force from its passage.
