CHAP. 496.—An ACT to incorporate the Disciples’ union o
Richmond and Manchester.
Approved February 29, 1892.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia
That Jabez Hall, W. L. Porter, E. A. Cole, L. A. Cutler
W. E. Smith, H. M. Tyler, W. F. Fox, C. E. Moore anc
J. P. Thomas, and such others as are now or may hereafte
be associated with them, and their successors, shall be
and they are hereby, constituted a body politic and corpo-
rate under the corporate name and style of Disciples’
union of Richmond and Manchester.
2. The object of this corporation shall be to establish,
maintain and foster mission Sunday schools and churches
within the cities of Richmond and Manchester, and the
counties of Henrico, Hanover and Chesterfield, in the
name of thiscorporation; toco-operate with other organi-
zations, individuals, churches and societies, or obtain the
co-operation of such with it, for general effort in pro-
moting Christianity and the welfare and advancement of
the churches now embraced or which may hereafter be
embraced in this union.
3. The said corporation may take and hold any estate,
money, property or effects which may be of value in pro-
moting the objects of the corporation, and may acquire
the same by gift, donation, lease, loan, purchase, devise or
bequest: provided that it shall not hold, at any one time,
property of any kind to an amount exceeding one hun-
dred thousand dollars nor more than two hundred acres
of land at any one time.
4. The said corporation shal] have perpetual succession
and a common seal, may sue and be sued, plead and be
impleaded, contract and be contracted with, and shall
have power to make and adopt a constitution and by-laws,
rules and regulations for the admission and expulsion of
its members and their government, the election of its
officers and agents, and the defining of their duties, the
fixing of their salaries, and so forth, and provide for the
safe-keeping and use of its property and funds, and from
time to time to amend such constitution, and to add to,
alter, or rescind such rules and regulations, and generally
to do every act and thing necessary or useful to carry into
effect this act, or to promote, encourage, and effect the
objects and purposes of this incorporation; provided, the
same be not in conflict with the constitution and laws of
this state or of the United States.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage, and be
subject to repeal, alteration, or amendment by the general
assembly. ,
