CHAP. 465.—An ACT for the relief the Berkley school district in
Spotsylvania county.
Approved February 29, 1892.
Whereas it appears that in taking the last school census
of Berkley district, Spotsylvania county, Virgina, serious
errors were committed, to the great damage of the school
system; and whereas by such errors the people of that
district are deprived of the fair benefits of the school
system; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That the clerk of the Berkley district board of Spotsyl-
vania county be, and is hereby, empowered to take the cen-
sus of all persons between the ages of five and twenty-one
years residing in said district, and shall comply in all re-
spects with the general law of the state in such cases made
and provided; and the general law of the state relating
to the taking of the census of school population by the
clerk of each district school board shall apply to the du-
ties herein imposed upon the said clerk of said district,
and the same duties and liabilities are hereby imposed
upon the other school officers which in such cases are im-
posed upon them by the general law.
2. After the said census has been taken and fully com-
pleted it shall be considered as the true census of the dis-
trict for all school purposes, and shall be the basis for
apportioning the school funds according to subdivision
nine of section fourteen hundred and thirty-six, code of
eighteen hundred and eighty-seven; and the census taken
according to the provisions of this act shall stand for all
school purposes as if the same had been taken according
to the provisions of the general law in such cases made
and provided.
3. The said clerk of said board shall receive for his
services under this act such compensation as the said dis-
trict board may deem reasonable: provided, the same
shall not exceed the compensation for similar services
prescribed in section fourteen hundred and sixty-two,
code of eighteen hundred and eighty-seven.
4, This act shall be in force from its passage.
