Chap. 402.—An ACT to amend the charter of the town of Wythe-
ville, define the jurisdiction and powers of certain officers, and
extend the corporate limits.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That section one of chapter one of an act approved Feb-
ruary twenty-sixth, eighteen hundred and eighty-six (acts
eighteen hundred and eighty-five and eighteen hundred
and eighty-six, page two hundred and ninety-three), as
amended by act of eighteen hundred and eighty
and sections eight and eleven of chapter two of said act,
be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That the territory in Wythe county included in the follow-
ing boundaries: Beginning at the southern line of William
Hufford’s farm, at the blacksmith shop on the west side of
Tazewell turnpike; thence running northeastly, parallel
with Main street, to a stake in line with east side of Thir-
teenth street when extended, as shown on the map of the
town; thence with the east line of Thirteenth street south-
easterly to the present corporate line and the Raleigh and
Grayson turnpike; thence from the Raleigh and Grayson
turnpike in a direct line with the northwest side of North
street, extending northeasterly toa stake in line with the
northeastern corner or line of the Southwest Virginia agri-
cultural association’s fair grounds; thence with the east-
ern line thereof, or present cor orate limits, to the old road,
and with the old road to the McAdam road; thence with
the McAdam road to a point where the old water-tank stood
on the Norfolk and Western railroad; thence soutbwest-
erly in a direct line parallel with Main street to the south
side of Reed river (or Reed creek); thence with the south
side and meander of said river to the southern line of the
Trinkle tract of the Wytheville development company;
thence with the south line thereor to the west side of the
Raleigh and Grayson turnpike; thence with the western
line of said turnpike northerly to the south side of the
Norfolk and Western railroad, and with the southern
thereof to a point opposite the southwest corner of the
said development company’s Trinkle tract; thence with
the western boundaries of same and western bounda-
ries of the eastern Bourne tract to the McAdam road;
thence, crossing Pine Ridge at right angles to said Mc-
Adam road, to the north side of the old Ridge road;
thence easterly with the northwesterly side of the said
road to the south corner of the John A. Rowe tract,
belonging to said development company; thence north-
westerly with the western line of same to the northwestern
corner of same; thence in a direct line to the beginning,
shall constitute the corporate limits of said town.
§ 8. He shall, by virtue of his office, possess all the juris-
diction and exercise all the power and authority which
may be conferred upon him by the ordinances of said
town, in addition to the powers hereby given him by
virtue of this act, as well as the powers and authority
conferred by the laws of the commonwealth.
811. In case of the absence or inability of the mayor, the
president of the council shall possess the same power and
discharge the same municipal duties of the mayor during
such absence or inability. Any warrant which may be
heard by the mayor may, in his absence or inability, be
heard by any member of the council, or justice, who may
be designated by the mayor or president of the council,
as the case may be.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
