Chap. 381.—An ACT to provide for the working and keeping in
order the public roads in the county of Dinwiddie.
Approved February 25, 1892.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That the board of supervisors, acting in conjunction with
the judge of the county court of Dinwiddie county, shall
divide the said county into as many road districts as it
shall think proper, assign hands to the roads therein, and
the county court judge shall, in vacation, appoint a road
surveyor for each district, who shall superintend and direct
the repairs and keeping in order of the county roads and
bridges within his district in such manner and under such
regulations and restrictions as may be prescribed by said
board and judge.
2. Each road surveyor shall be entitled to receive such
compensation as the board of supervisors and county
judge shall determine on, not exceeding one dollar and
fifty cents per diem for the time he is employed in super-
intending the roads of his district.
3. The board of supervisors may annually levy along
with the county levy a special tax upon the property, real
and personal, assessed for taxation in the county of Din-
widdie, which together with the county levy received from
railroad and telegraph companies, shall be applied by said
board to repairing, improving and keeping in order the
public roads and bridges of said county. Such special tax
shall not be less than five nor more than ten cents on
every one hundred dollars in value of such property, and
shall be collected, accounted for, and paid out as the gen-
eral county levy.
4. All acts or parts of acts in conflict with this act are
hereby repealed: provided, nothing in this act shall be
construed as relieving all male persons sixteen years old
and over from two days’ road service in each year on the
public roads of the said county, as is now provided in code
of Virginia, eighteen hundred and eighty-seven.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
