CHAP. 347.—An ACT to incorporate the James river academy.
Approved February 25, 1892.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That H. H. Harris, W. C. Foster, C. H. Ryland, F. W. Boat-
wright, D. A. Christian, R. B. Hudgins, W. L. Boatwright,
F. N. Maxey, James M. Newman, W. W. Putney, W. R.
Putney, J. S. Adams, J. B. Godsey, L. R. Thornhill, J. H.
McRae, C. W. Dickinson, J. P. Prophet, M. J. Taylor, D.
M. Bryant, William J. Watson, J. W. Forbes, J. H. Gil-
liam, S. P. Taylor, Addie Spencer, A. M. Bauton, B. F.
Nuchols, W. E. McCraw, C. C. Perkins, C. C. Johnson B.
G. Rush and their successors and such others as they may
associate with them, to a number not exceeding thirty at
any one time, be, and are hereby, constituted a body cor-
porate, under the name and style of the James river
academy. "
2. The said corporation shall have the right to receive
property, real and personal, by gift, purchase, or bequest,
and to administer the same according to their best judg-
ment for the establishment and conduct of a school of
high grade in the county of Buckingham, or in the county
of Cumberland, with all other privileges and powers
necessary thereto under the laws of the state.
8. The said corporation shall have power to elect offi-
cers, prescribe their duties, require bond and security of
the custodians of its funds, appoint and remove teachers
and other officers of the school, fix terms of admission for
pupils, and to do, subject to the laws of the land, what-
ever else may be necessary for the efficiency of the school.
They shall at their first meeting under this act fix a time
for an annual meeting, and provide for called meetings if
necessary. At any meeting not less than seven shall con-
stitute a quorum.
4, Vacancies in the corporation shall be filled by selec-
tion from a list of nominees, not less than two for each
vacancy, to be furnished by the James river Baptist asso-
ciation. But if the said association shall fail after due
notice to make nomination, the corporation may fill vacan-
cies on its own nomination.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
