CHAP. 313.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 2823, chapter
17, of the code of Virginia, relating to the appointment of direc-
tora and surgeon of penitentiary.

Approved February 19, 1892.;

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That section two hundred and thirty-two, chapter seven-
een, of the code of Virginia, be amended and re-enacted
o as to read as follows:

§ 232. Appointment of directors and surgeon of peniten-
jary.—There shal] be annually appointed by the governor,
mn the first Monday in January, or as soon thereafter as
nay be, three persons as directors of the penitentiary, and
ilso a surgeon of the penitentiary, who shall be qualified
o act as soon as they have taken the oaths prescribed by
aw and delivered a certificate thereof, or a transcript as
lirected by section one hundred and seventy-five. Their
erms of office shall be until the first Monday in January
ollowing, and afterwards until their successors shall be
jualified. Vacancies occurring in either of said offices
may be filled by the governor from time to time.

2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
