CHAP. 29.—An ACT to authorize the Virginia pyrites mining
company to construct a railroad or railroads connecting its
mines and lands with other railroads.
Approved December 22, 1891.
Whereas the Virginia pyrites mining company, char-
tered in pursuance of the laws of the state of Virginia, by
decree of the circuit court of the city of Richmond, en-
tered on the twenty-first day of April, eighteen hundred
and ninety-one, on the petition of G. N. Shuman, E. C.
McCulloch, W. H. Mann, and others, desire the privilege
of connecting its mines, in the county of Louisa, by rail-
road with other railroads of this state, for the transporta-
tion of their ores, minerals, and other products to market;
therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That the said Virginia pyrites mining company shall have
the power and authority to construct a railroad or rail-
roads, beginning at any point upon its own land and
extending thence not more than ten miles, connecting
its mines and works, or any or all of its lands, with the
railroad built by the Sulphur mines company of Virginia,
under and by virtue of an act of the general assembly of
Virginia, approved March seventh, eighteen hundred and
eighty-four, and which runs from a point near the shaft
of the Virginia pyrites mining company to the Chesapeake
and Ohio railroad company, at or near Mineral City, in
the county of Louisa, and connecting its said mines, lands,
works, and so forth, with an} other railroad or work of in-
ternal improvement in this state, and to operate and main-
tain the same; and to this end and purpose may cause the
condemnation of all necessary land, or, when the land tra-
versed is mineral land, may condemn an easement therein
according to the method prescribed by the laws of this
state for the condemnation of the fee simple.
2. The said company may, after construction, lease its
roads, or any of them, to any railroad or railroads in the
state of Virginia, and may make any contract or arrange-
ment with said railroad for the use of its rolling stock
and motive power, or for the transportation of its ores,
mineral, and products, as it may deem best, not inconsist-
ent with the general laws of the state.
3. The said company shall have all] other rights, pow-
ers, and privileges conferred by the laws of the state on
corporations created for the construction and operation of
railroads, and be subject to all conditions and limitation
imposed upon said corporations.
4. This charter is granted upon condition that all taxes
due to the commonwealth by the said company shall be
id in money, and not in coupons cut from the bonds o
e state.
5. The general assembly reserves the power to amend
ter, or repeal this charter at its pleasure.
6. This act shall be in force from its passage.
