CHAP. 21.—An ACT to give the consent of the commonwealth
to the purchase or acquisition of real estate by the United States
government, in the city of Roanoke, for a site for a public build-
ing for the accommodation of the United States court-room,
post-office and other offices.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That the consent of the state of Virginia is hereby given
and granted to the purchase or acquisition by the govern-
ment of the United States, or under the authority of the
same, of so much land as may, by said government, be
deemed expedient for a site for a public building for the
accommodation of the United States courts, post-office
and other government offices, in the city of Roanoke and
state of Virginia.
2. That this state retain concurrent jurisdiction with
the United States over such land, so that courts, magis-
trates, and officers of this state may take such cognizance,
execute such process, and discharge such other legal
functions within the same, as may not be incompatible
with the consent hereby given. !
3 The land so acquired, together with the tenements
and appurtenances for the purposes before mentioned,
shall be held exempt from all state and municipal taxa-
tion so long as the United States shall be, and remain the
owners thereof.
4, This act shall be in force from its passage.
