CHAP. 191.—An ACT to authorize the council of the town of
Rocky Mount to levy a tax to pay a subscription to the Roanoke
and Southern railway company.
Approved February 12, 1892.
Whereas by a vote taken on the fourteenth day of June,
eighteen hundred and ninety, in the town of Rocky Mount,
a subscription of twenty thousand dollars was voted by
the people of said town to the stock of the Roanoke and
Southern railway company, for the purpose of construct-
ing the railway known as the Roanoke and Southern rail-
way; and whereas it is suggested that said subscription
may require the imposition of an annual tax in excess of
the amount on the one hundred dollars worth of taxable
property specified in section twelve hundred and forty-
three of the code of Virginia of eighteen hundred and
eighty-seven; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That said subscription is hereby made valid and effectual,
and the council of the town of Rocky Mount, be, and they
are hereby, authorized to carry out the wishes of the
voters of said town as expressed by said vote, or which
may be hereafter expressed by the voters of said town,
and to assess and levy such annual tax as may hereafter
be made, the limitation of the amount of taxation as pre-
scribed in section twelve hundred and forty-three of the
code of Virginia of eighteen hundred and eighty-seven, to
the contrary notwithstanding.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
