CHAP. 113.—An ACT to incorporate the Robert M. T. Hunter as-
sociation.
Approved February 2, 1892.
Whereas it appears to the general assembly of Virginia,
That an association has been formed for the purpose of
raising, by individual subscription and contribution, a
fund to erect, at the city of Richmond, a monument in

memory of Robert M. T. Hunter, and also to provide a
suitable place for his remains in connection with and
addition to said monument; and, whereas it appears that
the said association has been organized with the following
officers, to-wit: General Joseph R. Anderson, president ;
Colonel Frank G. Ruffin, Judge Waller R. Staples, Judge
T. R. B. Wright, Major Holmes Conrad, Colonel W. F.
Drinkard, General Wm. B. Taliaferro, General Bradley
T. Johnson, Rufus B. Merchant, Colonel L. Q. Washing-
ton, General Fitzhugh Lee, Joseph Bryan, Honorable Tay-
lor Berry, board of directors; G. Watson James, secreta-
ry; Colonel Wm. H. Palmer, Treasurer; any five of whom
shall constitute a quorum; now, therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That the said Joseph R. Anderson, Frank G. Ruffin, Wal-
ler R. Staples, T. R. B. Wright, Holmes Conrad, W. F.
Drinkard, Wm. B. Taliaferro, Bradley T. Johnson, Rufus
B. Merchant, L. Q. Washington, Fitzhugh Lee, Joseph
Bryan, Taylor Berry, G. Watson James, and Wm. H. Pal-
mer, and their successors in office and associates, be, and
are hereby, constituted a body politic and corporate, un-
der the name and style of the Robert M. T. Hunter asso-
ciation, and by that name and style shall be subject to
all the provisions, and entitled to all the rights, powers,
privileges and immunities prescribed by existing laws, in
so far as the same are applicable to like corporations and
the purposes of said associations, and are not inconsist-
ent witb this act.
2. The said association shall have power to provide for
representation, in its general meetings and elections of
the individual subscribers to the fund raised by subscrip-
tion; to increase or diminish the number of its officers;
to change their designation and prescribe their duties; to
appoint collecting agents, and to hold them to a strict ac-
countability; to require of its receiving and disbursing
officers bonds, with security, conditioned for the faithful
performance of their duties, and to make all needful by-
laws and regulations, consistently with the laws of the
state, for the management of its property, and the due and
orderly conducting of its affairs.
3. It shall be lawful for the said association to raise
by individual subscription and contribution, such sum of
money as may be necessary, and to acquire by purchase
or gift, from authority, a lot in Hollywood cemetery, or
some public lot or square within the city of Richmond,
as may be agreed upon for the location of the proposed
monument, such lot to be held sacred for the purpose of
said association as recognized in this act, and such kin-
dred objects as the association may, from time to time,
adopt, and which may not be inconsistent with the laws
of the state.
4. It shall also be lawful for said association to pro-
vide a final resting place for the remains of Robert M. T.
Hunter, with the assent of the members of his immedi-
ate family, either at the place at which said monument
may be erected, or at some other place within the limits of
the state, with the privilege of making provision for the
interment of other members of his family at the same
place as the association may direct.
5. If from any cause the said association shall cease to
exist, and not be revived within a reasonable time, the
property which may be acquired by it, within the state,
shall revert to the commonwealth of Virginia, and be
held sacred to the purposes for which it shall have been
originally acquired.
6. This act shall be in force its passage.
