Chap. 64.—Ah ACT to amend and re-enact section 852 of the
code of 1887, in relation to compensation to clerks of board of
supervisors. :
Approved February 17, 1890.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That section eight hundred and fifty-two of chapter thirty-
six of the code of eighteen hundred and eighty-seven be
amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§852. Such clerk shall receive a reasonable compensa-
tion for his services as clerk of the board, not to exceed
in any one year the sum of thirty dollars: provided, that
the clerk of the board of supervisors of Augusta county
mav receive a salary not exceeding one hundred and fifty
dollars.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
CHAP. 65 —An ACT to amend and re-enact section 1070 of the
code of Virginia relative to the pow--r of one company toacquire
stock in another company.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That section ten hundred and seventy of the code of Vir-
ginia be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§1070. General restrictions on corporations.—No incor-
porated company shall hold any more real estate than is
proper for the purposes for which it is incorporated; nor
employ its capital, money or effects, or otherwise engage
in transactions or business not proper for those purposes.
One company shall not subscribe to, purchase, or other-
wise acquire the stock of another company unless speciully
uthorized by act of legislature, or by terms of decree of court,
r order of the judge incorporating the company or amending
harter thereof. If any company shall acquire stock in any
ther company contrary to the provisions of this section,
t shall not be lawful for it to vote such stock in any gen-
ral or special meeting of stockholders.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
OHAP. 66.—An ACT amending and re-enacting section 8206 of
the code of Virginia touching an office for the attorney-general.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That section thirty-two hundred and six of the code of
Virginia be amended and re-enacted so as to read as fol-
low:
83206. The governor shall assign to the attorney-general
s room in the capitol for his office, or if that be not prac-
ticable, the attorney-general is authorized to procure an
office in the city of Richmond, near the capitol, the rent
of which shall be paid out of any money in the treasury
not otherwise appropriated: provided, that the rent there-
for shall not exceed four hundred dollars per annum.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
