Chap. 33.—An ACT for the relief of Thomas Whitt, of Mont-
gomery county.
Approved Janaary 31, 1890.
Whereas on the twenty-eighty day of August, eighteen
hundred and eighty-six, one Pierce Crockett shot and killed
Thomas B. Hall, in the town of Central, Montgomery
county, and in the effort to capture Crockett, a justice of
the peace of said county ordered a special constable to
seize the mare of Thomas Whitt and pursue the said
Crockett, who was rapidly fleeing ; and whereas in the pur-
suit and capture of said criminal, the mare, which was
heavy with foal, was ridden to death; and whereas the
paid mare was appraised by disinterested persons at the
sum of one hundred dollars; now, therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That the auditor of public accounts be instructed to draw
his warrant in favor of Thomas Whitt for one hundred
dollars, to be paid out of any money in the treasury not
otherwise appropriated.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
