Chap. 184.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 2048 of the
code of Virginia, as amended by an act approved 16th January,
1890, in relation to what constitutes a lawful fence.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That section two thousand and forty-eight of the code of
irginia, as amended by an act approved January six-
enth, eighteen hundred and ninety, in relation to what
onstitutes a lawful fence, be amended and re-enacted so

S2H8. The board of supervisors of any county, after
wsting a notice of the time and place of meeting for
hirty ‘days at the front door of the courthouse, at each
oting place in the county, and by publishing the same
mee a week for four successive weeks in some newspaper
f such county, if any such be printed therein, a majority
f the board being present and concurring, may declare
he boundary line of each Jot or tract of land, or any other
natural or designated line on what shall constitute a law-
‘ul fence in such county, or in any magisterial district
hereof, or in any selected portion of such county, to be a
awful fence ag to any or all of the animals mentioned in
ection two thousand and forty-two; and to the extent
the said board shall so declare, the boundaries of each lot
and tract of land, or any other natural or designated line,
shall constitute a lawful fence as to the said animals, or
such of them as may be named, after six months from the
time of such action by the board, and to such extent sec-
tion two thousand and thirty-eight shall be inoperative
from and after the said six months. And in any county
where the supervisors or other local authorities have here-
tofore in pursuance of law declared, or shall hereafter in
pursuance of law declare, the boundary line of each lot or
tract of land, or any other natural or designated line in
such county, or 1n any magisterial district thereof, or in
any selected portion of such county, to be a lawful fence
as aforesaid, then the board of supervisors, after the same
notice and publication as above provided, by a unanimous
vote of all the members of the board, may declare that
the boundary lines of lots and tracts of land and other
natural or designated lines in such county, or any magiste-
rial district thereof, or 1n any selected portions of such
county, shall, after the expiration of a period to be desig-
nated by the board, not exceeding one year, cease to be
lawful fences as aforesaid ; and upon the expiration of
the period so designated, and to the extent declared by
said board, such boundaries or other natural or designated
lines shall cease to be lawful fences, and to such extent
