CHAP. 626.—An ACT to incorporate the Woman’s Christian
Association of Richmond,
Approved March 6, 1890.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia.
That Belle 8. Bryan, Sallie A. Parker, Nannie H. Quarles,
Ellen S. Ruffin, Susan T. Pilcher, Eliza J. Pleasants.
Susana C. Nolting, Mary E. Minor, Catherine Coles Sim-
ons, Alice T. Lyon, Mary A. Christian, Belle R. Williams,
and such other persons as may be associated with them
and their successors, are hereby constituted and declared
to be a body politic and corporate by the name and style
of the Woman’s Christian Association of Richmond, and
by that name it shall be known in law, and shall have
perpetual succession and a common seal, with the right to
change the same at pleasure, and it shall have the power
to sue and be sued, to contract and to be contracted with,
and it shall enjoy all the rights and privileges, and be
subject to all the regulations and restrictions incident to
similar corporations under the general law of the com-
monwealth.
2. The objects of the said association shall be to pro-
mote the spiritual ‘and temporal welfare of such indigent
and dependent women as it may see fit to assist, and
especially of such young women as must rely on their own
exertions for a livelihood.
3. That the members of the said association shall have
authority to adopt a constitution and by-laws, to prescribe
rules and regulations for its government and the promo-
tion of iis interests, and for the admission and expulsion
of members, and from time to time to amend the same.
4. That the officers of the said association shall consist of
a president and such other officers as may be deemed need-
ful, and they shall be elected in such manner and at such
times and shall hold office for such terms and perform
such duties as the constitution and by-laws shall pre-
ecribe.
5. That the said association may acquire property by
purchase, gift, devise, or bequest, and may hold real estate
in the city of Richmond or county of Henrico not exceed-
ing three acres, and it may lease, sell, exchange, or encum-
ber any of its property, real or personal, as it may see fit:
provided, that it shall not own property of greater value
in the aggregate than ten thousand dollars.
6. That the said association, being wholly charitable
and benevolent, shall be exempt from the payment of all
state, county, or municipal taxes.
7. This act shall be in force from its passage.
CHAP, 627.—An ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of
Prince George county to employ detectives and offer rewards
for the apprehension of house-burners and persons charged with
felony in said county.

That it shall be lawful for the board of supervisors of
Prince George county toemploy detectives for the purp
of bringing to justice house-burners and other crimiza:
