CHAP. 568.—An ACT to provide for working the roads in Lov-
ettsville district, Loudoun county.
Approved March 4, 1880.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That an act to provide for the working of roads in the
county of Loudoun, approved February sixteenth, eighteen
hundred and eighty, be amended and re-enacted so as to
read as follows, so far as such act relates to the Lovetts-
ville magisterial district in said county:
2. That the road board, consisting of the supervisor,
commissioner of roads, and one of the justices of the peace
for said district, which board shall have exclusive control
of the roads and bridges within its limits; all taxes levied
for road purposes, and building and repairing bridges,
shall be expended within said district.
3. That the board hereby provided for shall be a body
politic and corporate, and shall be known and designated
as the road board for the Lovettsville magisterial district.
4. That said board shall be empowered to contract with
any responsible party for making and keeping the roads
in repair for certain distances in each sub-district, the
compensation not-to exceed the amount at present appro-
priated for said distances; but preference may be given to
the farmer for contracting for roads bordering on or run-
ning through his lands for a term of three vears.
+. That the parties contracting shall give bond, with
security, approved by the road board, for double the amount
of their contract, for the faithful performance of their du-
ties, and their compensation shall be withheld until the
supervisors shall certify that the contract is fully dis-
charged and accepted.
6. That any roads not let by contract shall be made and
repaired by the overseers in their respective districts under
the present law.
7. That all acts and parts of acts in force for working
the roads in Loudoun county not in conflict with these
acts shall remain in force.
8. This act shall be in force from its passage.
