CHAP. 543.—An ACT to authorize the district school board of At-
lantie magisterial district of the county of Accomac to borrow
the Piper school fund.
Approved March 4, 1890.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That the district school board of Atlantic magisterial
district of the county of Accomac be, and are hereby,
authorized to borrow the fund known as the Piper school
fund, or so much thereof as they may desire. This fund
being now under the control of the circuit court of said
county, said court, or its judge in vacation, is authorized
to loan said fund to said board, or so much as they may
desire to borrow, and the terms upon which said fund is
loaned are to be fixed by said court or judge, and the said
board is hereby authorized to enter into such terms of con-
tract as said court or judge shall prescribe.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
CHAP 544.—An ACT to incorporate the Granville Sanitarium at
iberty.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That Thomas M. Bowyer, R. B. Claytor, E. M. Nicholl, R.
K. Campbell, T. W. Jones, J. LL. Campbell, and T. D.
Berry, and their successors, be, and they are hereby, con-
stituted a body politic and corporate under the name and
style of the Granville sanitarium, and by that name shal]
have perpetual succession and a common seal, may sue
and be sued, plead and be impleaded, and shall be capa-
ble in law to receive, hold, and dispose of real and per-
sonal property to any amount not exceeding one hundred
thousand dollars, and to lease or encumber the same to
carry out the purpose of their incorporation.
2. That said named persons and their successors shall
constitute a board of trustees to acquire, by gift or other-
wise, property, real, personal, or mixed, and to use, man-
age, and control the same for the purpose of establishing
and conducting a sanitarium hospital at Liberty, Bedford
county, Virginia, for the medical and surgical treatment
of women and children, and of males when the latter shall
be deemed advisable or practicable.
3. The said board of trustees shall have power to adopt
and enforce such rules and regulations, not inconsistent
with the laws of this state or of the United States, as may
be deemed expedient for the good government of the insti-
tution. They shall have power to elect annually a presi-
dent of their body and a secretary and treasurer, and such
other officers as they may deem proper, and may require
bond and security of any of such officers as to said board
may seem desirable or proper.
4. Four of the trustees in person, or represented by
proxy, shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of
business, and any vacancy in the board caused by death,
resignation, removal, or otherwise, shall be filled or sup-
plied by appointment of the board.
5. If it shall appear at any time to said board of trus-
tees that from Jack of means or other cause they cannot
carry out the objects of this act, then they shall have the
authority to lease, invest, and manage such property as
they may then have or afterwards acquire until such time
as it shall have become sufficient for said objects, or they
may donate the same to such eleemosynary purpose or pur-
poses as to them may seem proper; but in order to make
such donation, the unanimous consent of the board of
trustees must be had, and after such donation, said trus-
tees shall stand discharged of the trust.
6. This act shall be in force from its passage.
CHapP. 5445.—An ACT to change the name of the town of Estill-
ville, in Scott county, to ‘‘ Gate City.”
Approved March 4, 1800.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That the name of the town of Estillville, in Scott county,
Virginia, as heretofore incorporated by an act approved
March five, eighteen hundred and eighty-eight, be, and the
same is hereby, changed to the name of “ Gate City,” with
all the rights, powers, franchises, and privileges heretofore
conferred or acquired, and subject to all the obligations.
debts, and liabilities incurred under its corporate name of
“ Estillville.”
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
