CHAP. 524.—An ACT to amet.d and re-enact sections 2 and 3 of
an act passed February 21, 1873, entit!d an act to incorporate
the town of Lebanon, in Russell county.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That sections two and three of chapter ninety-six, acts of
eighteen seventy-two and eighteen hundred and seventy-
three, entitled an act to incorporate the town of Lebanon,
in Russell county, passed February twenty-first, eighteen
hundred and seventy-three, be amended and re-enacted so
as to read as follows:
2. The boundaries of said town shall be as follows,
namely: Beginning at a point at Little Cedar creek oppo-
site the line between H. P. Burns and George R. Cowan;
thence westwardly with the meanders of said creek to the
mouth of a small creek emptying into the said creek on the
north side thereof, and west of the residence of the widow
of M. J. Carroll; thence northwardly with the meanders of
said branch to a smal) bridge across the turnpike road ;
thence northward a straight line to the west end of the
graveyard ridge; thence eastwardly with the top of said
ridge, enclosing the graveyard; thence a straight line to
H. H. Dickinson’s north line at the road; thence with the
north line of H. H. Dickinson to the corner between H. H.
Dickinson and George R. Cowan; thence due east to the
original line between Gilmer Cowan, deceased, and said
George R. Cowan; thence south in a straight line to Little
Cedar creek, and thence up said creek to the beginning.
8. The officers of said town shall consist of four trus-
tees and one mayor, who shall compose the council (three
of whom shall constitute a quorum to transact business),
and a sergeant, who shall hold their office for one year,
and until their successors are elected and qualified.
4. The said council shall have power to provide for
keeping the streets in order and paving the same; to keep
the side-walks in good order, free, and clean by the own-
ers and occupants thereof, and to provide for other neces-
sary improvements, for which purpose they may levy such
tax as they may deem proper not exceeding ninety cent:
on the hundred dollars nor exceeding fifty cents poll tax
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
