CHAP. 509.—An ACT to incorporate the Tobacco Trade of the
city of Richmond.
Approved March 4, 1890.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That Charles Watkins, R. A. Patterson, Cazneau McLeod.
Peyton Wise, R. A. ‘Trice, James N. Boyd, P. T. Conrad,
James Hardgrove, T. M. Rutherfoord, J. J. Wilson, and W.
T. Yarbrough, and such other persons as are now, or may
hereafter become, associated with them, be, and they are
hereby, constituted a body corporate, by the name of the
Tobacco Trade of the city of Richmond, to be located in
the city of Richmond, for the purpose of maintaining the
integrity of the trade; of fostering confidence in the
tobacco market, and of promoting the general interests of
the leaf tobacco business in said city.
2. The said corporation shall have power to adopt a seal
and to change the same; to sue and be sued; to acquire
or hold, by lease or purchase, a suitable building or rooms
and furniture for the use of the corporation. :
3. Such corporation shall have power to make and adopt
a constitution and by-laws (not inconsistent with the laws
of this commonwealth ), rules, and regulations for the ad-
mission, government, expulsion, and suspension of its
members, the collection of fees and dues, the number and
election of its officers, and to define their duties, and for
the safe-keeping of its property and management of its
affairs, and to alter, modify, and change such constitution,
by-laws, rules, and regulations, from time to time.
4. The several officers of said trade, at the time of the
passage of this act, shall continue to hold their respective
offices, with the powers and duties prescribed by the con-
stitution and by-laws of said trade, until their successors
shall be elected and installed; and in case of any vacancy
in any of such offices, such vacancies shall be filled in the
manner prescribed by the constitution and by-laws already
adopted by said trade, or as the same may, in conformity
therewith, be altered or amended by this corporation, and
the present constitution and by-laws of said trade shall
be the constitution and by-laws of said corporation until
the same shall be altered or amended by said corporation.
5. The said corporation is authorized to require of, and
take from, its officers or agents, and from warehousemen
belonging to said trade, bonds in such penalty and upon
such conditions as may be prescribed by said corporation,
for the purpose of securing faithful performance of duty.
6. This act shall he in force from its passage, and be
subject to amendment, alteration, or modification, at the
pleasure of the general assembly.
