CHAP. 478.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 4 of an act
approved May 14, 1887, as amended by chapter 355 of the acts
of assembly of 1887-88, entitled an act to prevent the destruc-
tion of fish and to prevent the obstruction of the free
of the same in the Dan river ator near Danville, Virginia.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That section four of an act approved May fourteenth,
eighteen hundred and eighty-seven, as amended by chap-
ter three hundred and fifty-five of the acts of assembly of
eighteen hundred and eighty-seven and eighteen hundred
and eighty-eight, entitled an act to prevent the destruc-
tion of fish and to prevent the obstruction of the free
passage of the same in Dan river at or near Danville, Vir-
ginia, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
84. It shall be unlawful after the passage of this act for
any person or corporation to catch or take in or from said
river at Danville, between the Richmond and Danville
railroad bridge across Dan river and one hundred feet
above the dam across said river, fish of any kind what-
ever, by means of traps, nets, gill-nets, seines, trot-lines,
gigs, grab-hooks, or in any other way or manner whatso-
ever except by angling with ordinary hook and line. And
all traps, nets, gill-nets, and other appliances hereby pro-
hibited for catching fish shall be within thirty days from
the passage of this act removed from said river within the
prescribed locality aforesaid. Any person or corporation
violating or failing to comply with any provisions of this
section shall, upon conviction thereof before any justice
of the peace of Danville or North Danville, be fined not
less than twenty dollars for eagh offence, and one-half of
such fine shall be paid by the officer collecting the same
to the informer.
2. All acts or parts of acts in conflict with this ‘act are
hereby repealed.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
