CHAP. 472.—An ACT to amend and re-enact an act entitled an
act to Incorporate the East End beneficial and social society of
the city of Richmond, approved February 21, 1882.
Approved March 8, 1800.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That J. C. Donnella, B. B. Dononman, B. Jacobs, C. C.
Thon, W. E. Davis, Bob Faircloth, James McDonnaugh,
A. Hawks, B. F. Donovan, M. 8S. Blount, Charles Sack, W.
N. Jones, John Weckert, V. Donati, John J. Reilly, and
such other persons as are now or may hereafter become
members of this society, be, and are hereby, made a body
politic and corporate by the name =nd style of the “ Jeffer-
son beneficial and social society” of the city of Rich-
mond, the object of which shall be to promote social in-
tercourse and dispense charity, and by that name shal.
have perpetual succession and a common seal, may con.
tract and be contracted with, sue and be sued, with powe}
to purchase, receive, and hold to them and their succes.

such society. They shall also have the power to rent, sell.
or loan for the use and benefit of the said society any of
the property so acquired: provided, however, that the
lands, goods, and chattels so authorized to be held shal]
not exceed in amount and value five thousand dollars.
2. That the members of said society or such members
thereof as they shall determine to be a quorum for such
purposes, shall have power to make such constitution, by-
laws, and regulations for the government of said society
and its officers, and the execution of its objects, not in-
consistent with the laws of this state or of the United
States, as they may think proper, and shall have power to
require such fees, fines, and contributions from its mem-
bers as they shall deem proper for the purpose of the
said society.
3. The. said society shall pay all taxes due or to become
due the state of Virginia in lawful money of the United
States and not in coupons.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage, and shall
be subject to modifications, amendments, or repeal at the
pleasure of the general assembly.
