Chap. 459.—Apn ACT to amend and re-enact section 6 of an act
entitled an actto amend the charter of Richmond College passed
April 7th, 1858,
Approved March 3, 1890.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That section six of an act entitled an act to amend the
charter of Richmond college, passed April seventh, eigh-
teen hundred and fifty-eight, be amended and re-enacted
so as to read as follows:
§6. The said trustees are hereby authorized and required
to admit to instruction in al] the classes of the college,
free of all charges except board, and in all other respects
upon terms of equality with other students, all ministers
and preachers and candidates for the ministry belonging
to the denominations of christians called regular Baptists,
who may be recommended by the education board belong-
ing to the Baptist general association of Virginia, in which
board all the rights, properties, privileges, powers, duties,
and obligations of the Virginia Baptist education society
are hereby declared to be vested. And said trustees may
also admit gratuitously such other students as they may
think proper. And said trustees may receive donations,
bequests, and devises, or in their discretion purchase and
hold property, real and personal, in any county or corpora-
tion of this commonwealth, and use and control] the same
for educational purposes, in the founding and maintain-
ing of schools or academies, under such rules and regula-
tions as may be prescribed by the said trustees.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
