CHAP. 326.—An ACT to incorporate the Bristol belt-line railway
company.
Approved February 22, 1890.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That A. S. McNeil, William F. Rhea, N. M. Taylor, J. F.
Hicks, W. A. Sparger, and H.G. McCoy, and their asso-
ciates and successors, be, and they are hereby, constituted
a body corporate by the name and style of the Bristol belt-
line railway company.
2. The said company shall ‘have power and authority to
construct, equip, maintain and operate a street railway in
and along any of the streets or public highways within
the city of Bristol, Virginia, with the consent of the coun-
cil of said city, and this shall include the right to construct
and operate a street railway in and along the main street
of said city up to the center or middle of said street; and
said company shall have the right to construct and operate
its street railway to and through any part of the county
of Washington, Virginia, outside of the limits of said city
by and with the consent of the county court of said county.
3. It shall be lawful for said company to transport pas-
sengers, freight, and baggage over the line of their railway,
and to collect such fares and tolls for the same as may
be fixed by said company, and to use horse, steam, or
electric power, and all such engines, machinery and other
appliances as it may desire to propel the cars along its
road.
4, The capital stock of said company shall be not less
than ten thousand dollars nor more than one hundred
thousand dollars, to be divided into shares of fifty dollars
each.
5. Said company may acquire and own real estate in the
county of Washington, Virginia, not to exceed one thous-
and acres, and may mortgage, encumber and dispose of
the same as it may desire, and it shall always have its
principal office in the city of Bristol.
6. Said company shall have power and authority to lease
its road or roads, and to borrow money for the use of the
corporation, and to secure such loans by deeds of trust on
all or part of its road, estate, franchises, and income.
7. Said company shall have the power and authority to
consolidate with and to operate with any street railway
company, or to own, control, or lease any street railway
incorporated under the jaws of the state of Tennessee, and
constructed or to be constructed and operated in and along
the streets of the town of Bristol, Tennessee.
8. The incorporators hereinbefore named shall consti-
tute the first board of directors of said company, and until
their successors are elected by the stockholders shall man-
age the affairs of said company.
9. Said company shall pay its taxes to the state in money
and not in coupons.
10. This act shall be in force from its passage.
