CHAP. 294.—An ACT to incorporate the Road Alliance company
of Ashby magisterial district, in the county of Shenandoah.
Approved February 18, 1890.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That it shall be lawful to open books under the direction
of Peter S. Rinker, Abram J. Kagey, Isaiah Bowman,
Whiten Bowman, Nosh Coffman, C. S. Rosenberger, Jona-
than Harpine, and Walton Craig, and such other person
or persons, as any three of the above-named persons may
appoint, and at such time and place as they may select,
for the purpose of receiving subscriptions to a joint capi-
tal stock, to be divided into shares of twenty-five dollars
each, for the purpose of constructing turnpike roads: one
from Rinkerton to the Valley turnpike, two miles south of
Edinburg, over the Middle road; one from Cabin Hill, by
Bethel church, to intersect the Middle road at its present
intersection; also one from the Mount Jackson and How-
ard’s Lick turnpike, at Zirkle’s tan-yard, over the public
road by the Christian Baptist church and Hamburg to
intersect the Cabin Hill road near Bethel church.
2. When asufficient amount shall have been subscribed
their executors, administrators, and assigns shall be, and
they are hereby, incorporated into a company by the name
and style of the Road Alliance company of Ashby magis-
terial district, subject to the general laws of the state
applicable to such corporations, except so far as modified
by this act: provided, that the said subscriptions shall be
paid as required by the board of directors when organized.
3. The said company shall be, and they are hereby,
authorized to erect gates across said roads and to charge
tolls according to law, so soon as five miles of said roads
are completed, and every succeeding mile thereto, as it
may be completed: provided, there shall not be more than
one fractional section on each road.
4. The said company, in constructing said roads or turn-
pikes, shall have the right to use the beds of the public
roads as described above, and the said company shall have
the right to make the width of said road asa majority of
the stockholders may direct.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
