Chap. 146.—An ACT to amend and re-enact sections 1, 2, 3, and
18 ot chapter 164 of acts of assembly of 1887-’88 entitled an act
to authorize the erection of a Washington masonic memorial
temple in Fredericksburg.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That sections one, two, three, and thirteen of chapter one
hundred and sixty-four of acts of assembly of eighteen
nundred and eighty-seven and eighteen hundred and
eighty-eight, entitled an act to authorize the erection of a
Washington masonic memorial temple in Fredericksburg,
approved February twenty-second, eighteen hundred and
eighty-eight, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as
follows:
§1. That Thomas N. Brent, worshipful master of lodge
number four of ancient, free, and accepted masons, of
Fredericksburg; A. B. Botts, high priest of royal arch
chapter number twenty-three, of Fredericksburg; James
P. Corbin, eminent commander of Fredericksburg com-
mandery, number one, knights templar; William H. Rus-
sell, A. P. Rowe, junior, Henry Souther, Charles E. Hun-
ter, and two other persons, if the board shall see fit to
elect them (whose election is hereinafter provided for),
and their successors in office lawfully chosen, be, and they
are hereby, incorporated as the board of trustees of the
Washington masonic memorial temple to be located and
built within the town of Fredericksburg, to commemorate
for all time the initiation, passing, and raising of George
Washington, general-in-chief of the armies of the patriots
in the war for American independence, and first president
of the United States of America.
2. The worshipful master of lodge number four, the
high priest of royal arch chapter, number twenty-three,
and the eminent commander of commandery number one,
by virtue of their respective offices, shall be and remain
members of said boardof trustees until the twenty-second
day of February, Anno Domini eighteen hundred and
ninety-one, when their membership shall cease, and their
successors shall then and thenceforward be elected by the
said lodge, chapter, and commandery, respectively, for a
term of four years.
3. The last four mentioned trustees in this act of in-
corporation shall hold their offices, respectively, for the
terms of one, two, three and four vears, the duration of
their terms of office to remain the same as they have here-
tofore been designated by Jot, and which they now hold in
said board. At eachelection to fil] the places made vacant
by the expiration of the terms of those designated the
election shall be for the full term of four years; provided.
that vacancies shall only he filled for the unexpired terms,
and shall be filled by the remaining members of the boards
of trustees. The other two (if the board shall decide to
elect two additional meinbers) shall be elected by the
board of trustees to serve a term of two and four vears,
the board to decide which one shall serve two vears and
which one shall serve four years. After the first election
the term of office of each shall be for four vears, the
vacancies to be filled bv the board of trustees.
13. The erection of the temple herein provided for shall
be begun within five years, and finished within fifteen
vears from the passage of this act.
2. This act shall take effect from and after its passage.
