Chap. 81.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 1 of an act ap-
proved January 17, 1871, entitled an act to amend and re-enact an
act entitled an act to amend the charter of the town of Warrenton,
passed April 9, 1852.
Approved April 28, 1887.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section one of an act entitled an act to amend and re-enact
an act entitled an act toamend the charter of the town of
Warrenton, passed April ninth, eighteen hundred and fifty-
two, be amended and re-cnac ‘ted so us to read as follows:
$1. The council of the town of Warrenton shall consist
of a mayor, recorder, and seven aldermen, who shall be
elected annually by the qualified voters of said town. and all
persons qualified to vote in said election, shall be eligible to
cither of the said offices. Their term of office shall "be (exX-
eept when elected to fill vacancies) for one year, and until
their successors shall have qualified. Whenever a vacancy
shall occur, from any cause, in lie ollice of mayor or recorder,
the council may either fill said ‘ancy by appointment, or,
if in their opinion proper, may order a special election to fill
the same, to be held at such time and place as they may
designate, of which at least two weeks previous notice shall
be duly given and published; and pending said election said
council may appoint a mayor pro tempore to hold until the
duly clected mayor shall have qualitied. Vacancies occurring
in the otHee of alderman shall be filled by appointment of the
council.
