Chap. 51.—An ACT to amend section 2 of chapter 197 of the Acts of
1885-6, in reference to funds appropriated by the town of Danville
for railroad purposes, &c. |
Approved April 6, 1887.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section two, chapter one hundred and ninety-seven, Session
Acts eighteen hundred and eighty-five and eighteen hundred
and eighty- six, entitled an act to confer upon the council of
the town of Danville authority to build, purchase, repair, and
keep up a free bridge or free bridges across Dan river, and to
confer upon the said corporation the power to increase its
bonded indebtedness for public improvements, be amended
and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 2. And the said council shall have power, also, to issue
bonds of said town to an amount not exceeding five hundred
thousand dollars, in addition to the present indebtedness of
the town, for the purpose of subscribing to the stock of any
railroad having its commencement or terminus in the town
of Danville: provided, that the question of subscription shall
have been first submitted to the qualified voters of the town
of Danville, and shall be approved by two-thirds of the quali-
fied voters of said town voting at said election, which two-
thirds shall include a majority of the qualified registered
voters owning real estate in said town; said five hundred
thousand dollars shall also include such bonds as may be
issued under section one, for the construction of any iron
bridge at or near the site of the present bridge across Dan
river, owned by the town, and of said five hundred thousand
dollars the council of the town of Danville shall bave author-
ity and they are hereby authorized to expend one hundred
thousand dollars for constructing sewers, Improving and con-
structing gas-works, enlarging and improving its water-
works and ¢ constructing a new reservoir, and laying the pipes
thereto and therefrom, and in improving the streets of said
town,
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
