Chap. 5.—An ACT defining a lawful fence for Amherst county.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
for and with the county of Amherst a fence five feet bigh of
three rails or planks or wires, not more than eighteen inches
apart, shall be deemed a lawful fence.
2. This act shall not take effect, unless approved by a
majority of the voters of said county at the election to be
held on the fourth Thursday in May, eighteen hundred and
eighty-seven; at which election a poll shall be opened for
that vote, and the ballots shall be “for” and “ayainst” the
fence law. The vote shall be received, counted, certified, and
canvassed under the law existing by the officers conducting
said election, and the result shall be certitied by the county
clerk, posting a notice of said vote on the front door of the
courthouse of said county.
3. This act shall be in force from its passave.
