Chap. 418.—An ACT to authorize the joint ferry committee for the
management of Norfolk county ferries, to issue coupon bonds,
Approved May 23, 1887.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be lawful for the joint committee for the management
of the Norfolk county ferries, appointed by the board of
supervisors of Norfolk county and the council of the city of
Portsmouth, by and with the consent of the said board of
supervisors of Norfolk county and the council of the city of
Portsmouth, to issue on behalf of Norfolk county and the
city of Portsmouth, coupon bonds in series not less than one
hundred dollars, bearing interest at a rate not to exceed six
per centum per annum, payable semi-annually, and redeema-
le ten years from the first day of July, 1887, for an amount
not exceeding fifty thousand dollars, the said bonds to be
used in raising money by hypothecation or otherwise for the
improvement of the ferry property and the purchase or con.
struction of new boats.
2. The said coupon bonds, issued under the authority of
this act, shall be signed by the chairman of the said joint
committee for the management of said Norfolk county fer-
ries, be attested by the clerk of the county court of Norfolk
county, and have the seal of the said county affixed thereto,
and be attested by the clerk of the council of the city of
Portsmouth, and have the seal of the city of Portsmouth
affixed thereto.
3. It shall be lawful for the said joint committee for the
management of said Norfolk county ferries, by and with the
consent of the board of supervisors of Norfolk county and
the council of the city of Portsmouth, on behalf of Norfolk
county and the city of Portsmouth, to pledge by deed of trust
or otherwise, as sccurity for the payment of the bonds and
interest coupons attuched thereto, issued pursuant to this
act, any or all of the boats, their engines, apparel, and appur-
tenances, and any or all of the wharves, docks, and other
personal and real estate used in connection with the said fer-
ries, the fee in which is owned jointly by said Norfolk county
and city of Portsmouth, such deed of trust to be executed on
behalf of said joint committee by the chairman thereof under
his hand and seal.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
