Chap. 411.—An ACT declaring Stony creek and its tributaries, and
Staunton’s creck in the county of Scott, public highways.
Approved May 23, 1887.
1. Be it enacted by the gencral assembly of Virginia, That
Stony creek and its tributaries, and Staunton’s creek from the
main road at Hagan’s sulphur spring to its mouth, in the
county of Scott, are both hereby declared public highways
for the purpose of floating loose logs, rafts, and lumber.
2. The owners of mill-dams across said creeks are required
to erect and maintain substantial aprons or shoots, to facili-
tate the passage of logs, rafts, and lumber over their dams;
and upon their failure to erect and maintain said aprons or
shoots, shall be liable for the loss or damage sustained by any
person by reason of such failure.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
