Chap. 316.—An ACT in relation to the establishment of certain foun-
daries by the government of the United States within the State of
Virginia.
Approved May 20, 1887.
Whereas it is represented to the general assembly of the
State of Virginia that the government of the Unites States
in contemplation the establishment at an early day of one
or more foundaries for the manufacture of guns, ordnance
stores, and armor plates; and whereas it isnow demonstrated
that the State of Virginia contains within her borders an
unlimited supply of coal and iron ore capable for the econom-
ical making of iron and stecl of the highest grades, and _pos-
sesses many locations unsurpassed elsewhere for the establish-
ment of such a foundry; and whereas the general assembly
of this State by an act approved March eighteenth, eighteen
hundred and cighty-four, expressed its consent that the
government of the United States may acquire as much land
within this State as may be required for such a foundry;
therefore,
1. Be it resolved by the Senate of Virginia (the House of
Delegates concurring), That the government of the United
States be and is hereby requested and invited to examine into
the superior advantages offered in Virginia for the establish-
ment and location of such a foundry.
2. Resolved further, That our senators and representatives
in the congress of the United States be and they are hereby
requested to take such action in the premises as they may
deem requisite for the accomplishment of the object of these
resolutions; and the clerks of both houses are hereby directed
to transmit to the secretaries of war and navy of the United
States certified copies of these resolutions.
