Chap. 270.—An ACT authorizing the governor to recall the convicts
now held by the South Atlantic and Ohio railroad company, unless
said company complies with certain conditions.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the governor of the commonwealth be and is hereby re-
quested to recall the convicts now in the possession of the
South Atlantic and Ohio railroad, under contract of date the
seventeenth day of November, eighteen hundred and eighty-
five, entered into between the then governor of the common-
wealth and said South Atlantic and Ohio railroad, and replace
them in the penitentiary, unless the said South Atlantic and
Obio company shall guarantee the payment of twenty-five
cents in cash per capita per day for each day actually em-
ployed, for said convicts during the time they shall be em-
ployed after the first day of August, eighteen hundred and
eighty-seven, which amount shall be in full for the feeding,
guarding, and clothing of said convicts, and the said company
shall deposit with the treasurer of the commonwealth the
mortgage bonds of saic company for such sum as-may be due
by said company tor said convicts heretofore employed by
said company under said contract, and the laws applicable
thereto.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
