Chap. 263.—An ACT to incorporate the Grand Lodge of Pilgrim
Travelers of Salem Baptist church of Red Oak Grove, Charlotte
county, Virginia,
Approved May 16, 1887.
1. Be it enacted by the gencral assembly of Virginia, That
Jordan Moseley, Robert Carlton, Lewis Fields, Mack Jettrees,
Thomas Ilam, “Johnson Couch, Moses Haskins, and such
otbers as they may associate with them, be and they are
hereby cove ti tart au body politic and cor porate by the name
and sly le of the Grand Lodge of Pilgrim Travelers of Salem
Baptist church of Red Oak Grove, Charlotte county, Virginia,
and by that name may sue and be sued, plead ‘and be im-
pleaded, have a perpetual succession and a common seal, and
in all respects shall be invested with the rights and privileges
couferred, and subject to the restrictions and regulations pre-
scribed for corporations by tbe general law, so far as the
same are applicable to this corporation and not inconsistent
with this act.
2, The said corporation may take by purchase, gift, de-
vise, or bequest, and bold real and personal estate, and lease,
rent, sell, or otherwise dispose of the same in such manner
us may be advantageous: provided it shall not bold real es-
tate exceeding filtcen thousand dollars in value.
3. The objec ts of the association incorporated by this act,
shall be the mutual benefit, protection, and assistance of' its
members, the care of their widows and orphans, and pro-
vision for their burial when dead.
4. The said association shall have power to make and
adopt a constitution and by-laws, rules, and regulations tor
the admission, suspension, and expulsion of members, and
for their government; for the election of ofticers and the de-
fining of their duties, for the sate keeping and protection of
its property and funds, and for the establishment of subordi-
nate Jodyes in different localities of this commonwealth, pro-
vided the same be not inconsistent with the laws of the State
and of the United States.
9. This act shall be in force from its passage.
