Chap. 251.—An ACT to enable the board of supervisors of Elizabeth
City county to make an appropriation for the public schools of said
county.
Approved May 16, 1887.
1. Beit enacted by the gencral assembly of Virginia, That
the board of supervisors of Elizabeth City county, be and the
same are hereby authorized and empowered to appropriate
to the use of the public free schools of said county, the fund
arising from the sale or redemption of lands in said county,
delinquent for county taxes from the year eighteen hundred
and seventy-six to eighteen hundred and eighty-five inclusive,
or so much thereof as the said board may deem advisable,
and the board of school trustees of the school districts of said
county, are authorized within three years to appropriate or
apply for the purpose of erecting school houses, any surplus
county school funds that may be in their possession for that
purpose: provided that suitable school houses for the colored
children of the districts embraced in the town of Hampton
shall be built from the funds appropriated by this act before
any other expenditure of said funds is made.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
