Chap. 197.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 16 of an act ap-
proved February 25, 1884, entitled an act to amend and re-enact
sections 2, 4, 8, 11, 13, and 16 of an act approved March 31, 1873, en-
titled an act to amend and re-enact the charter of the town of Salem
in the county of Roanoke.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section sixteen of an act approved February twenty-five,
cightcen hundred and eighty-tour, entitled an act to amend
and re-enact sections two, four, eight, eleven, thirteen, and
sixteen of an act approved March thirty-one, eighteen hun.
dred and seventy-three, entitled an act to amend and re-enact
the charter of the town of Salem, in the county of Roanoke,
be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§16. The corporate limits of the said town shall be as fol-
lows: Beginning on the macadamized road at Lake Spring
branch; thence with said branch to Roanoke river; thence
with the river and down the same toa point twenty poles
southwest of the residence of the Pitzer and Martin mill
property; thence due cast toa point where it would intersect
Market street, if extended to that point; thence northward
on a line with, and including Market street extended, to a
point where the corporate lines of said town, as they existed
on the first day of January, eighteen hundred and eighty-six,
crossed Market street extended; thence with the corporate
lines as they existed on the first day of January, eighteen
hundred and eighty-six, to a point twenty poles east of the
Cove road; thence parallel with the Cove road to a point
twenty poles cast of the Cove road, at its intersection with
the road running north of the lots of the late Peter Shickel
and of Thomas Snead; thence to and with the said road, and
tollowing the corporate lines of the said town as they existed
on the first day of January, cighteen hundred and eighty-
six, to the macadamized road; thence east to the beginning
at Lake Spring branch. The said council shall have power
to lay off and open new streets and alleys, of such width and
extent as suid council shall think fit and convenient, and alter
those already laid off and opened, or such as may hereafter be
laid off and opened, whether within the original or extended
limits of said town. °
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
