Chap. 167.—An ACT to empower the People’s telegraph company,
incorporated by the State of North Carolina, to construct, operate,
and maintain its line or lines of telegraph to any point or points
within the State of Virginia.
Approved May 6, 1887.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the People’s telegraph company, incorporated by the State of
North Carolina, be and the same is hereby empowered to
construct, operate, and maintain its line or lines of telegraph
to any point or points within the State of Virginia, or through
the same, to such point or points beyond, to which the said
company may propose to extend its line or lines, and to
establish offices in the said State for the conduct of its busi-
ness.
2. That for such purposes the said People’s telegraph com-
pany may occupy the margin of any public highway or otber
road, or the right of way of any railway or other public
work, in so far as may be necessary therefor; and the said
People’s telegraph company are hereby empowered, where,
in respect to private or other property, the right of way for
its line or lines of telegraph, and real estate for its offices,
nay not be secured by concession or otherwise hy agree-
nent, to acquire the same by condemnation in the mode and
nanner provided by the laws of the State of Virginia,
vhereby railway and other corporations are empowered to
equire the right of way and other property for their works.
3. That the said People’s telegraph company shall be sub-
ect to the laws of this State governing like corporations.
4. This act shall be in force from its passace.
