Chap. 162.—An ACT to authorize the board of supervisors or Meck-
lenburg county to order a special election upon the question of
building or purchase of a house in Clarksville magisterial district
for the purpose of holding magisterial courts.
Approved May 6, 1887.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the board of supervisors of the county of Mecklenburg may
order a vote to be taken upon the question of building, or if
deemed more advisable, the purchase of a house in Clarks-
ville magisterial district, in which to hold magisterial courts.
2. Said election, if ordered, shall be held at the regular
spring election in May, eighteen hundred and eighty-seven.
The manner of conducting the election shall be the same as
now prescribed by law for State and county elections.
3. The ballot shall be as follows: For building or purchase;
against building or purchase.
_ 4. The manner of canvassing the vote and making returns
shall be as prescribed by law, except that the certificates of
judges shall be as follows:
5. We certify that at the special election held in Clarks-
ville magisterial district on the ———— day of May, eightcen
hundred and eighty-seven, - votes were cast for build-
ing or purchase, and ——— votes were cast avainst building
or purchase for district purposes.

6. The said election shall be in Clarksville magisterial dis-
trict of said county only; and should the return of votes cast
at such election shqw that a majority of the qualified voters
of said district have votéd for the building or purchase, then
it shall be the duty of the said board of supervisors in said
county, to levy a tax upon the property of said district, which
is assessed with State taxes and county levies, sufficient to
erect or purchase said building.
7. Said board of supervisors may make such other ar-
rangements for the construction, erection, and location of
said building as they may deem proper.
8. This act shall be in force from its passage.
