Chap. 158.—An ACT for the relief of Samuel W. Lyons, treasurer of
the county of Norfolk.
Approved May 6, 1387.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be Inwful for Samuel W. Lyons, treasurer of the
county of Norfolk, to collect by levy, or otherwise, as if the
same were executions in the hands of the sheriff of said
county, all tax bills assessed for the years cighteen hundred
and eighty-three and eighteen hundred and eighty-four in
said county, and which were not returned delinquent: pro-
vided however that the right of said treasurer to levy for the
said tax bills shall not continue beyond six months from the
date of the passave of this act.
2. Be it further enacted, That it appearing from the bank
book of the said Samuel W. Lyons, treasurer, that there was
deposited to his credit, as treasurer, State funds on the second
of April, cighteen hundred and cighty-five, in the banking
house of Bain and Brother, in the city of Portsmouth, the
sum of six hundred and thirty-nine dollars and sixty-nine
cents of funds belonging to the State, which bank failed on
said day, the auditor of public accounts is hereby authorized
and directed, upon the delivery to him by the said treasurer
of his bank book aforesaid, or the certificate of the trustees
of the said banking house, to credit the account of said trea-
surer with the sum of six hundred and thirty-nine dollars
and sixty-nine cents, or such sums as appears therefrom to
be due on the said bank book or certificate, as if the same
had been paid on the second day of April, eighteen hundred
and cighty-five; and the said auditor shall collect from the
said bank and pay into the State treasury such sums as may
be paid by the receivers or trustees of said bank on account
of said deposit.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
