Chap. 157.—An ACT for the relief of Darling A. Bennett, a maimed
confederate soldier of the county of Essex.
Approved May 6, 1887.
Whereas it is represented to the general assembly that
Darling A. Bennett, of the county of Essex, enlisted in the
service of the Confederate States during the late war, ina
Georgia regiment, and while serving in said regiment was so
seriously and permanently disabled by wounds as to prevent
him from performing manual labor; and whereas, since the
close of said war, he bas been 4 resident and citizen of Vir-
ginia, but debarred from receiving the commutation money
paid by the State to citizens of the State, who were such
during said war, and were wounded and disabled; and
whereas it is right and just that he should reccive the same
commutation moncy that is paid to other citizens of the
State, who were wounded and disabled during said war;
therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the auditor of public accounts be and is hereby instructed
and directed to enter the name of the said Darling A. Ben-
nett in class one, as prescribed by chapter one hundred and
fifty-two of the Acts of eighteen hundred and cighty-three—
four, approved February twenty-five, eighteen hundred and
eighty-four, or by any similar act that may be passed; and
pay to him the same commutation moncy that is paid to
other wounded or disabled soldiers coming under the perview
of that act or acts.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
