Chap. 153.—An ACT to incorporate the Portsmouth street railway
company.
Approved May 6, 1887.
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
William H,. Stewart, Sumner T. Dunham, John L. Watson,
Adrian Riddick, and Henry Kim, and their associates and
successors, be and are hereby constituted a body corporate
and politic by the name and style of the Portsmouth street
railway company.
2. ‘The said company shall have power and authority to
construct, equip, maintain, and operate a street railway along
the streets of Portsmouth, with the consent of the council of
said city, and into the adjoining county of Norfolk, along
the county roads, with consent of the board of supervisors
of said county, subject to the general laws of the State
yvoverning corporations.
*3. It shall be lawtul for said company to transport passen-
gers, freights and baugevage over the line of their railway, and
to collect fare and tolls tor the same, at such rates as may be
approved by the council of the city of Portsmouth.
4. The capital stock of said company shall not be less than
eight thousand dollars, nor more than two hundred thousand
dollars, divided into shares of twenty-five dollars cach.
5. The said company may acquire land in payment of sub-
scriptions or by donations, and may sell, lease, or otherwise
dispose of the same.
6. The said company sball have power and authority to
lease its said road, and to borrow moncy for the uses of the
corporation, and to secure such loans by deed of trust or
mortgage on all or part of its estate and franchises and in-
come.
7. William’ H. Stewart, Sumner T. Dunham, and John
L. Watson are hereby appointed commissioners to reccive
subscriptions to the capital stock, and to call a meeting of
Bubseribers for organization, in accordance with the pro-
sions of the laws of this State i in regard to chartered com-
panics.
8. All acts and parts of acts in conflict with this act are
hereby repealed.
9. This act shall be in force from its passage.
