Chap. 150.—An ACT to amend the charter of the City Bank of Rich-
mond.
Approved May 6, 1887.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
sections three, nine, and eleven of an act entitled an act to
incorporate the Merchants and Mechanics Savings Bank of
Richmond, Virginia, passed February eighteenth, cightcen
hundred and sixty-seven, as’amended by an act entitled an
act to change the corporate name, and amend the charter of
the Merchants and Mechanics Savings Bank of Richmond,
Virginia, approved July eleventh, eighteen hundred and sev-
enty, as amended by an act entitled an act to amend an act
entitled an act to amend the charter and change the name of
the Merchants and Mechanics Savings Bank of the city of
Richmond, approved December cighteenth, eighteen hundred
and seventy-two, as amended by an act entitled an act to
amend an act entitled an act to amend an act entitled an act
to amend the charter, and change the name of the Merchants
and Mechanics Savings Bank of the city of Richmond, ap-
proves February seventh, eighteen hundred and seventy-six,
e and the same is hereby amended and re-enacted so as to
read as follows:
§3. The said corporation hereby created under its name
of the City Bank of Richmond, is hereby authorized and
empowered to receive money on deposit, and to grant certifi-
cates therefor in accordance with the conditions set forth in
sections four and five, chapter fifty-nine of the Code of Vir-
ginia, to borrow money and to execute notes for the same;
to collect notes, bonds, and bills of exchange, or other secu-
rities; and to guarantee the payment of money due upon bills
of exchange, negotiable notes, or other written evidences of
debt, and the performance of other written contracts; and
generally to do all such acts, and transact all such business
as may lawfully be done by banks of discount and deposit,
and savings banks under the laws of Virginia.
§ 9. Every stockholder may, at pleasure, by power of attor-
ney, or in person, assign or transfer his stock in said bank on
the books of the same, or any part thereof, not being less
than a whole share.
§ 11. The stockholders of the said corporation shall not be
personally liable for any loss, debt, contract, or obligation of
the said corporation.
2. Be it further enacted, That sections two and twelve of
the said act entitled an act to change the corporate name, and
amend the charter of the Merchants and Mechanics Savings
Bank of Richmond, Virginia, approved July eleventh, eigh-
teen hundred and seventy, be and the same are hereby
repealed.
3. Be it further enacted, That from and after January
first, eighteen hundred and eighty-eight, the board of direc-
tors of said corporation, the City Bank of Richmond, shall
consist of not less than seven nor more than twenty-fivo
directors.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
