Chap. 135.—An ACT to amend the charter of the Western Branch
railway company.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section one of an ac t approved February nineteenth, eighteen
hundred and eighty-six, entitled an act to incorporate the
Western Branch railway company, be amended and re-en-
acted go as to read as follows
€ 1. That S. B. Carney, John T. Griffin, William F. Wise,
Henry Kirn, James Wagener, L. D. Ames, and Wright B.
Carney, of Norfolk county, and E. D. Hargrave and E. J.
Driver, of Nansemond county, their associates, successors,
and assigns, be and they are hereby declaredsa body politic
and corporate by the name and style of the Western Branch
railway company, for the purpose of lo« ating, constructing,
equipping, maintaining, and operating a railway from the city
of Portsmouth or any point on the Elizabeth river, to any
point on the southern or western boundary line of the county
of Nansemond, or may extend said line across the Nanse-
mond river to Isle of Wight courthouse, or the town of
Smithfield.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
