Chap. 111.—An ACT incorporating the Sandy river mercantile and
manufacturing Company,
Approved May 2, 1887.
]. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Hl. M. Darnell. James E. Giles, Thomas ILines. J.S. Jennings,
R.S. Carter, John D. Dodd, W. E. Tapley, Daniel Jac son,
Jos. 1). Scarce, and J. I. Collie. together with such other
persons as are now or may hereafter ‘be associated with them,
shall be and they are hereby constituted and made a body
politic and corporate by the name and style of the Sandy
river mercantile and manutacturing company, to be located
near Vance postottice, Pittsylvania county, Virginia, and by
this name and style are hereby invested With all the rights,
powers, and privileges conferred, and made subject to nil the
rules, regulations, and restrictions imposed by the Code of
Virginia, applicable to said Sandy river mercantile and
manufacturing company, and not inconsistent with the pro-
visions of this act.
2. The capital stock of the said corporation shall not be
less than one thousand dollars, which may be increased from
time to time to a sum not exceeding one hundred thousand
dollars, divided into shares of ten dollars each.
3. For the purpose of doing and conducting a general
mercantile business and of manufacturing tobucen, and vested
with the privilege to buy and sell seoods, sue and be sued, to
plead and be impleaded, and are made subject to all the rules,
regulations, and restrictions provided and prescribed in the
(‘ode of Virginia so far as they are applicable to and are not
inconsistent with the powers and rights herein granted.
4. Tie liability and responsibility of the stockholders of
said company shall only be to the extent of the stock held
and paid for by them, and for no more and to no greater ex-

d. And that the said company shall pay its taxes and all
‘laims due to the commonwealth in lawful money of the
United States, and not in coupons.
6. ‘This act shall be in force from its passage.
