Chap. 53.—An ACT to incorporate the Workingmen’s Association of
Prince Edward county.
Approved February 3, 1888.
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
E. W. Barlett, N. McGehee, John W. White, E. D. Mathews,
Matt Bailey, Somerville, Anderson, John Stuart, Walker

Blanton, Albert Hines, Thomas Lockland, Lockett Leggs,
and such other persons as are now or may hereafter become
members of the association, be and they are hereby made a
body politic and corporate by the name and style of Work-
ingmen’s Association, and by that name may sue and be
sued, plead and be impleaded in all the court of the common-
wealth.
2. The object of this corporation shall be to take care of
its sick and destitute members, to bury its dead, to support
the widows and orphan children of deceased members, to
encourage and promote good morals and knowledge among
its members and their families, and such other benevolent
objects as the corporation may deem fit and proper to pro-
mote the interests of its members. The said corporation may
take and hold as much real estate and personal property as
may be suitable for its objects, not to exceed in value twenty
thousand dollars.
3. The chief place of business of said corporation shall be
in the town of Farmville, and it may make such by-laws,
rules, and regulations consistent with the laws of this state
and ot the United States, as it may deem proper for the gov-
ernment of its members, the management of its affairs, and
for the use, enjoyment, and control of its properity.
4, This act shall be in force from its passage.
