Chap. 490.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 1 of chapter 376
of Acts of Assembly 1885-86, entitled an act to authorize the voters
of Pittsylvania county to vote for or against the repeal of the present
fence law by magisterial districts.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That :
section one of chapter three hundred and seventy-sjx of Acts |
of Assembly eighteen hundred and eighty-five-six, entitled
an act to authorize the voters of Pittsylvania county to vote
for or against the repeal of the present fence law by magis-
terial districts, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as
follows:
§ 1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That it shall be the duty of the judge of the county court of
Pittsylvania, upon the petition, in writing, of three hundred
qualified voters, one-half of whom shall be freeholders, whose
names shall be written or verified in any magisterial district
in said county, which petition may be presented, either in
term or vacation, to order a special election in such district
or districts, upon the question of repealing the present fence
law in force in said county, as provided in an act as passed
January twenty-six, eighteen hundred and sixty-six, and
adopted by the county court of Pittsylvania county at its
December term, eighteen hundred and sixty-seven. The
said judge shall, fvithin ten days after the receipt of said
petition, certify the fact to the sheriff of said county, whose
duty it shall be to forthwith post, at each voting precinct in
said district or districts, notice of said election, and also to
give notice to the officers charged with the duty of conduct-
ing elections in said district or districts, and also to publish
the same in some local newspaper not less than one month
_prior to the day of said election:) provided that in order to
require the judge of said court to order such election in
Staunton River district in said county, the petition aforesaid
shall be required to have only one hundred qualified voters,
of whom fifty shall be freeholders to be verified as‘above
provided.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
