Chap. 444.—An ACT to incorporate the Isle of Wight and Nansemond
lumber and transportation company.
Approved March 5, 1888.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
W. T. Furguson, E. B. i R. N. Furguson, R. 8.
Goodson, and B. H. Wilkinson, or such of them as may
accept the provisions of this act, be and they are hereby
constituted a body politic and corporate, by the name of the
Isle of Wight and Nansemond lumber and transportation
company, for the purpose of manufacturing lumber, cutting
wood, and otherwise operating in the same, and for the pur-
pose of transporting lumber, wood, merchandise, and pro-
duce, and by that name may sue and be sued.
2. That the said company shall have all the powers, rights,
and franchises necessary and proper to locate, construct, and
maintain a railroad with iron or wood rails for the purpose
of transporting wood, lumber, and such produce and mer-
chandise, as may be brought them for transportation; said
railroad to commence from some point at or near Iron Mine
spring in the county of Isle of Wight, in the state of Vir-
ginia, to some point on Nansemond river at or near Butt’s
farm in the county of Nansemond and state aforesaid.
3. That the said company shall have power to hold, use,
and employ such machinery and appliances as their business
may require, and may purchase, hold, and sell such land,
timber, and lumber, as may be necessary for the successful
operation of said business and road.
4, That the capital of said company shall not be less than
twenty-five thousand nor more than fifty thousand dollars.
5. That the said company shall have power to build and
maintain a wharf at the terminus of said railroad on Nanse-
mond river, at or near Butt’s farm, and tor that purpose may
condemn not exceeding two acres of land.
6. This act shall be in force from its passage.
