Chap. 386.—An ACT to authorize the sale of certain real estate now
held by the county school board of King and Queen county, and to
provide for the investment of the proceeds of sale.
Approved March 2, 1888.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the county school board of King and Queen county be and
they are hereby authorized to sell on such terms as they may
think best, all or any part of the real estate lying in said
county known as the Smithfield lands, and now held by them
for school purposes; and when the purchaser or purchasers
shall have fully paid the purchase money, to convey said real
estate to him or them, as the case may be.
2. The proceeds from such sale or sales shall be safely in-
vested in such manner as the said board shall direct, having
reference to the income to be realized therefrom, the prompt
payment of the interest thereon, and the safety of the in-
vestment. 5
3. The interest on said investment shall be used by the
said board for public school purposes, but in no event shall
said board expend any part of the principal of such fund.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
